Students in pre-k blue learned about baptism. They took a walk to the cathedral and got to see the baptismal font and tall baptismal candle. Mrs. Lund shared pictures of her brother (Fr. Robb Jurkovich), baptizing all her kids. Then we each got to pretend to baptize a baby doll, while one person got to pretend to be the godmother or godfather and hold the candle. We then worked on the activity related to baptism that came with our new Allelu religious curriculum materials.

The sixth grade class is currently delving into the fascinating world of American government, specifically the legislative branch. This branch is responsible for creating laws, and students are eager to understand the intricate process that transforms an idea into a law.
The legislative branch is a key component of the United States government, and it is bicameral, meaning it consists of two houses: the House of Representatives and the Senate. Students are learning about the roles and responsibilities of each house, as well as the qualifications and terms of office for members.

Every year, the sixth grade science class harvests our potatoes grown in the raised garden beds in the back of Father Marquette Catholic Academy. Miss Gencheff teaches them about the process of how food gets to our table. In the spring of the previous year, the class plants and cares for the potatoes and other plants in the raised beds. In the fall, when school is back in session, they pick and prepare some delicious mashed potatoes. On top of that, Mrs. Katers brings in cream and they make fresh butter for topping!

On Friday, October 4 we celebrated the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. St. Francis of Assisi loved all parts of God's creation, including animals. In honor of his feast day, Father Marquette families were invited to a blessing of the pets, given by Father Tim Ekaitis. Many families gathered with their pets, including a bird and a hamster. Among the barking and laughing, Father Tim was able to give our pets a blessing as well as a sprinkle of holy water for each. It was a joyful morning. May St. Francis bless all of our pets and remind us to thank God for the gift of love we feel for them.

The sixth graders recently had the opportunity to explore the Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve. During their visit, the students learned about the importance of protecting water resources and the delicate balance of ecosystems.

Fire Safety Week is October 7–11. The second grade was able to learn from the Marquette City Fire Department through the use of their mobile firehouse. Students practiced fire escape, calling 911 and all made a fire safety plan with their families. Other grades took a walk down to Marquette Fire Station #1. Students saw the facilities first hand and got to meet the fire dog! Thank you to the Marquette City Fire Department for taking the time to educate and connect with our students.

In 7/8 Theology, we have been learning about how we are redeemed and called by Christ. Original sin may have come at the beginning but is not the end. Jesus Christ has conquered sin and death, redeeming us with God. He then calls us to be the light of the world. The students were tasked with recreating an apparition of Mary, our Blessed Mother using cut or torn pieces of paper. This activity teaches the students to see the order and beauty that can emerge from broken things and through our brokenness God enters and makes us new.

7th and 8th graders recently embarked on an educational field trip to Presque Isle Park. The students spent the day exploring the park's diverse ecosystems and learning about the importance of environmental conservation. A highlight of the trip was a visit to the Moosewood Nature Center, where they had the opportunity to observe local wildlife and learn about the region's natural history.
Every fall, the middle school students and their bikes get hauled up to Ishpeming and they start biking, all the way to Marquette! The annual trip down the Iron Ore Heritage Trail is a fun and adventurous day everyone really looks forward to. It was a chilly start this year but lots of sun!
Border Grill is the final stop for lunch so they can fill their bellies before heading back to Father Marquette Catholic Academy.

The eighth graders placed a bird feeder outside of their homeroom class. The classroom's saint is Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. The students studied his works and put up the bird feeder in his honor. We pray the birds will find it soon so we can marvel at God's creation up close!

Last week our lucky Friday raffle seller drawing winner, William, 1st grade, won an unforgettable lunch with Bruce, the pup. The student was chosen at random from the raffle tickets sold last week to support our classical curriculum.
The lunch was a delight, filled with laughter, treats, and even a few tricks. Bruce showed off his skills with some of the students even joining him. The kids loved having him for their lunch time!
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who purchased raffle tickets to help fund our classical curriculum. Your support makes a significant difference in providing our students with a rich and meaningful education.
Let's continue to support our school by purchasing raffle tickets. Who knows, maybe your kiddo will be the lucky winner of the next Friday drawings!
